KILLIECRANKIE
PERTHSHIRE: Scotland, UK
Viaduct |
This viaduct had a long curve to the track, making a very difficult installation.
To enable the track speed to be increased on the Highland Railway from Perth to Inverness, the Viaduct at Killiecrankie needed extensive maintenance and strengthening. SCOTT WILSON IDG of Glasgow designed the strengthening of
the viaduct, which is on a curve, to withstand the lateral forces. This involved 40mm dia. Stainless Steel rebar CINTEC Anchors through the viaduct 10 metres long in the springing vee between the piers. To increase tension values they were
installed in a stepped bore hole. Other anchors were installed through the voussoirs stones into the arch barrel.
This work was carried out by Richies of Kilsyth for First Engineering, the project managers. |
