Victory Memorial Chapel
|
| CTL Inc. of Skokie Illinois designed and supervised the repair of this memorial chapel. Due to the location of the chapel on the campus of St. John's Military Academy, sensitive restoration work was
required. The walls consisted of an exterior wythe of Ashlar stone and an interior wythe of either brick, stone or clay tile of varying thickness up to 36" thick. Over time the mortar in the joints had deteriorated and turned to sand due to
weathering, moisture penetration and frost action. The repair of the walls required anchoring the two wythes of the wall together using CINTEC wall ties varying in length from 9" to 36" spaced at 3 ft. (900mm) on centre horizontal and 1'6
(450mm) on centre vertical. In addition, the walls of the turret were stitched using CINTEC stitching anchors 5' (1.52mm) long installed into a 2" (50mm) dia. holes drilled parallel to the exterior wall face.
CINTEC anchors were chosen for this project because of their adaptability to be designed for the specific project and the compatibility of the anchoring system with the parent wall material. The stress between the interface of the anchor and parent material is low due to the large area of the interface. This makes the anchoring system ideal for the use in old/historic buildings. |
